My name is Max/Maxi (they/them), and this is my digital grimoire! As a beginner in witchraft, astrology, and Hellenic polytheism, I always wanted a website that served as a database for the magical meanings of herbs and crystals and stuff. I found myself hopping between websites a lot with no main hub of information. So I made this little site to change that!
When I try to use someone else's grimoire, I usually run into three problems:
1.) The writer is Wiccan and includes Wiccan stuff on every other page (I am not a fan of Wicca. No hate towards Wiccans though. It's just irritating trying to find stuff for witchcraft and paganism and always running into it).
2.) Personal Book of Shadows type records get recorded in the grimoire. Like experiences with spellcasting and such. In my opinion, that should go in another book and the grimoire should be used as a reference, but that's just me you guys do whatever you want.
3.) There is too little information, or it's just restating of simple concepts that I already know. Like how witchcraft works or a bunch of history.
This grimoire serves as a reference. You can come here and easily find the information that you're looking for, without all the junk.
This site will always be free for everyone to use. No freemium. I hope to open a small online shop one day, but I may put that on a different site. I might put spells here as well. I don't know though. Unless it's a physical item, it will always be free.
I have also gone to special lengths to ensure that this site is accessible to as many people as possible. There is a translate button for people who speak languages other than English. It works from Google Translate, so I am not sure how accurate it is. I am planning on translating the site to Spanish and maybe Japanese (though I doubt I have a very large Japanese audience, haha) myself. It would be nice to have translators, but I'm just a kid about to go into university, and I'm trying to save up my money.
There are no special characters on the site, so it is friendly to screen readers. There are also no images, but that is mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to find/make images. There is no audio either. Just good knowledge. I might add some tables or charts later, but there will always be alt-text! If I can't find a way to explain it in the alt-text, I will not upload it.
This site uses the Georgia font, because I wanted it to have an old book kind of feel. I understand that this font is not dyslexia-friendly. Here are some Chrome, Firefox, and iOS extensions that can make it easier to read.
Dyslexia Friendly - Chrome
Dyslexie Font - Chrome
Open Dyslexic - Firefox
Mobile Dyslexic - Firefox
Open Dyslexic - iOS
If you are dyslexic, you probably already know about these extensions. But I put them anyways in case someone hasn't heard of them. Screen readers can also be helpful. I am currently developing an app which will only have dyslexia-friendly fonts, because I am not aware of any way that users can change fonts within apps on iOS.
This website is LGBTQ+ friendly as well. I will never share anti-trans or bioessentialist material on this site. The only problem I'm having with it is the Astrology Calculator asking for your "sex" with only two options. I have entered my information in as both "male" and "female" and there seems to be no difference in the results. I would get rid of that section but I didn't code it. It is an embed from a different site. Sorry about that.
This site often links to outside material for further reading or tools that I cannot provide directly. I will always describe what each link is and where it goes.
There are learning resources for beginners on the Learning Resources page, if you need them. Make sure you are doing your own research though! Never depend on just one source!
Okay that's all. Have a lovely day!
